Bio Module Contrib

A while ago I submitted a patch for the Drupal bio module that added the option to force users to create a bio when they first log in. That patch is still in development, but it’s now getting merged in with a new patch by Webchick that is adding some really great functionality. Basically, the new patch will let you define fields that you want to appear on the user registration page. This is going to make it a lot easier to handle advanced user profiles, something that Drupal is sorely missing. Right now, you have to install a couple thousand modules and sacrifice a few thousand hours to the dev gods to get a good user profiling system set up. Michelle has a great tutorial on setting up profiles, but even she will admit, it’s a mess to get it all working. So after some talks with Webchick and Michelle, I have to say, this is going to be a great leap in user-based Drupal sites!
